Hello hello!

Here's a page done with stash. All the papers are from We R Memory Keepers, though I think I have at least 2 lines of papers in it... but they went well together so it doesn't matter to me. I also used some chipboard letters from Thickers, and ribbon. The pumpkin embellishment is a metal brad thing that is also from WRM.

Witches Rule

Hello everyone!

Today's post is my first as a Designer for a new challenge website, Left of Center Creative Challenges!  Please head over there right away to see all the other designer's projects, they are gorgeous!!!  This challenge blog specializes in steampunk, goth, dark, grunge, Halloween, mythical, anime, edgy, etc. I really love the idea of designing for it!

So let me tell you a little about the layout. Of course, I'm the witch in the big pointy hat! lol  This was taken at work, my co-worker here and I were the only ones in our department who dressed up in costume! Everyone else were party poopers! lol

The papers are We R Memory Keepers line from last Halloween (gifted to me!). I really wanted to use the spider web paper as the background since my co-worker is wearing a web-y cape, but the die shape just seemed to disappear on it. So I glued the die shape to some Kraft cardstock and cut around it to create a "shadow" of the die shape, so that when I glued it down to the background it would stand out more.

  I used some ephemera around the photo, and the mirror is cut from my cricut from the French Manor cartridge but this mirror does NOT have a shadow feature, so again I glued it down to Kraft cardstock and trimmed around it to create my own shadow. I used a piece of adhesive-backed metal from Ranger for the mirror part, it cut just fine on my cricut!  I hand-snipped some ribbon for the upper right corner.

The raven image from Floppy Latte was printed on adhesive-backed canvas! How cool is that? I've never tried that before but it worked super well. I think the adhesive paper backing gave it enough stiffness to go through my printer. I took an edge distresser to the edge of the canvas to get it looking distressed.

Hello all! Here is another "Used my stash!" layout for you! I used the halloween themed papers from October Afternoon, plus some other things from my stash.  I know the black tape looks like washi tape but it is NOT! I have not bought ANY washi tape due to my ban on buying new stash. It's old 7gypsies tape I had in my stash for a couple years! So it's not as thin as washi tape but it works the same way and looks just as good. Someone had given me a big glass pebble with a pumpkin glued to the back of it, so I used that, and I also used a chalkboard sticker from the American Crafts halloween line a few years ago as a mat for a smaller circle punched picture. And of course, I used a Charlene's Button Box button in the shape of a spider web. ;)

No cricut on this page, I just cut strips and hand snipped the banners.

My mom had sent my son (who was 4) a box of halloween decorations a few years ago, and we put them all up. My kid was so excited that he did this weird little spooky dance and of course I had to take a picture. ;)

Last year I saw a wonderful project that inspired me, in one of the Northridge publications; the Simply Handmade Sewing issue in 2011, look on page 18 for the witch hat by Brianne Neville! There's a tutorial in that issue, but it's a fairly easy project to recreate!

I bought my paper mache witch hat form at Michael's, it was very inexpensive. You just need to cut a bunch of circles from your favorite Halloween cardstocks. (I cut mine with a cricut at about 2 inches or so)

Distress the edges with ink or scrape them, then layer them on the hat and bling it up or dress it up with paper "roses" and tulle. It was really easy!  I did paint my hat brim black first, though Brianne did not for hers, so it's up to you to paint or not. 

This sweet little hat is probably my favorite Halloween decoration in the house right now. :)  I hope you are inspired to make your own!
