A Taste of Vanderveer - layout

It's the time of the month for me to post my projects for Scrapaganza's Scrappinista Scrapbook kit club!

This month we got to use BoBunny's new winter line "Midnight Frost" and ooooh how yummy this line is! Beautiful blues, maroon and green. I just loved it! Our kit included 6 papers from the line, cardstock, stickers, ribbon and the coordinating stamps. We designers were asked to try to focus on ways to use our stamps so we did. I was way impressed with the ideas the other designers came up with!

On this layout I also used a technique I found in this month's issue of The Bug Magazine (which I am in! hee). It is to punch a strip of border with a border punch, then trim it down so that there's about 1/4 to 1/2 inch on the selvage edge. Snip the selvage edge every 3/4 inch or so, and then ease it around a curved edge op paper. The snips allow you to ease it around a broad curve, not tight small curves. If you've ever sewed, it's the same principle as easing a curve with fabric.

As for stamping, I used the snowflake stamps and a silver cats eye to stamp the green printed paper from the Winter Frost line.

The title block is a tag from the sheet of tags that you usually find with BoBunny's lines. It originally said "A Taste of Winter" but I used stamps to stamp the name of the park/conservatory we went to. I used pop dots to put it over the winter word and customized my title tag. ;)

Sizzix - Key/Keyhole Calendar

This is the final project for the January Sizzix Die of the Month class at Scrapaganza.
Tim Holtz had posted a wonderful technique for making foam stamps with your dies using craft foam! So that's what we're doing with this project. I cut the lock with craft foam, glued it to a piece of acrylic (scrap from packaging) with 3 in 1 glue, then used gold dauber paint and stamped the lock image onto the calendar background. Cut a key with chipboard and embossed with gold embossing powder.

This little calendar is perfect for a desk. A few ladies in the first class mentioned they would be using theirs in the kitchen or bedroom, where there isn't a wall calendar but often they need to glance at a calendar quickly for a date... The calendar pages on this I made myself, and it is 6x6. Small enough to take up little room but there's still space in the squares to jot a little reminder.

Sizzix - Key/Keyhole layout

My previous post, the Sizzix Key/Keyhole embellishment tag, and this layout above are part of the January Sizzix Die of the Month class at Scrapaganza!  Unfortunately, for those that missed signing up, this class sold out a few weeks ago! We even bought some more dies and made some more kits for the class but we had people on the wait list already who got those spots.

The key and keyhole are cut with the Sizzix die of the same name (not the Tim Holtz key/lock die). We will be cutting them out with chipboard and then using the "rusty hinge" technique from Tim's Compendium of Curiousities to grunge them up.

We have MANY wonderfully creative ladies who take our classes, and we've already had one of these classes so far, and I have to say, I am so impressed with how these ladies just take these ideas and run with them, coming up with some FANTASTIC pages and projects with their dies!

Sizzix - Key/Keyhole/Gears tag

January is my turn at Scrapaganza to design the Sizzix Die of the Month class. Here is the smaller project I created with the Key and Keyhole Sizzix die.

I cut a tag with Tim Holtz' sizzix tag die and a piece of acrylic from my stash of acrylic scraps from packaging (cricut cartridge packaging!)

Tim Holtz had done one of his 12 Days of Christmas tags, Day 10 with a piece of scrap acrylic and running it through with an embossing folder. So I ran the tag through a new 5x7 Cuttlebug folder called "Clockworks".

I cut a piece of 10 Second Studio sheet metal that we sell at the store with the Sizzix Die so that I would have the metal keyhole. The metal is black on one side and after I cut it with the sizzix, the edges of the metal looked embossed and very cool, so I sanded those raised edges a little to outline the cut, and then here and there scratched up the black so it looked a little grunged up.

I cut a chipboard key and heat embossed it with metallic silver embossing powder, then went around the edges with black ink to grunge it up. Fastened the keyhole onto the tag with brads, tied the key on with ribbon, and it's done! I love this tag and will be using it on a layout as an embellishment.

What did I do on New Year's Eve?  I crafted! A few of my friends/coworkers and I hung out at Scrapaganza and scrapbooked the night away! We almost missed midnight! LOL

Before that, my husband and I took our son out to a kids party at Monkey Joes. I'm sure I'll be scrapbooking that.

My first loom knitting project

My son has been telling me he wanted me to knit him something. I don't knit! A lot of my friends do though, and he's seen them knit. I do crochet however I had been wanting to learn to knit anyway. I am kind of put off by how long it takes to knit things though... then I discovered ProvoCraft's Knifty Knitter looms. I read on the Cricut message board that they are easy to learn and fast to do. So I made this poncho for my son as my first project. :)  It's not that great but I'm learning. :)  My son picked the colors!

I used 2 skeins of Red Heart super saver yarn, a strand of blue and orange together on the green round loom. I flat knit on that round loom... I used all the pegs but did not go completely around, just stopped and turned and knit the other way at the end of a row.

It was fun! I'm going to make me a hat next. :) Thanks for stopping by!
